Kennedy and Smith Account For Scoring as Bowdoin Earns Road Win at Husson

Rachel Kennedy's two goals helped Bowdoin to a 3-2 comeback win Saturday over Trinity

BANGOR, Maine - Rachel Kennedy and Cathleen Smith each scored a pair of goals as the Bowdoin College field hockey team dispatched Husson on Wednesday evening, 4-0.

The Polar Bears, ranked fifth in the latest NFHCA Division III poll, improve to 2-0 this season. The Eagles fall to 2-4 overall.

Kennedy, who scored her first collegiate goal in Saturday's season-opener against Wesleyan, notched the first two goals of Wednesday's affair, tallying at the 7:24 mark of the opening period to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead. She finished off a feed from Cathleen Smith at 24:42 before Smith notched a goal of her own at 30:25 to give the Polar Bears a 3-0 edge at intermission. Smith closed out the scoring with a goal at 48:20 to seal the win.

Bowdoin out-shot Husson 32-3 on the night. Kayla Lessard played 60:30 and was forced to make one save. Hannah Gartner was not tested in the final 9:30 in goal for the Polar Bears.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday, September 15 when they host Wellesley College, coached by former Bowdoin standout Julia King '09. Match time is set for1:00 p.m.
