Polar Bear Field Hockey Announces 2012 Regular Season Schedule

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team has announced its 2012 regular season schedule.

The Polar Bears, coming off another sensational campaign in 2011, will open their season on September 8 at home against Wesleyan University. The 14-game regular season schedule features seven home contests at Ryan Field, where the Polar Bears have won their last 23 matches dating back to 2009.

In addition to the season-opener against Wesleyan, the home slate includes clashes with NESCAC rivals Connecticut College (September 29), Bates (October 2), Williams (October 7) and Trinity (October 20). The Polar Bears will also have non-conference home matches against Wellesley (September 15) and Maine-Farmington (September 25).

Bowdoin's challenging road schedule features trips to Middlebury (September 22) and Tufts (October 24) as well as a back-to-back weekend at Hamilton and at Amherst on October 13-14.

The Polar Bears claimed their seventh NESCAC Championship in 2011, finishing the year with a 19-1 record that included the program's sixth trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four. Coach Nicky Pearson's squad will be captained by Kayla Lessard and Cathleen Smith this fall.
