Nicky Pearson Named NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College head coach Nicky Pearson was named Regional Coach of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association in awards announced late last week.

Pearson guided the Polar Bears to another stellar campaign in 2011, winning the program's seventh New England Small College Athletic Conference title and reaching the Division III "Final Four" for the sixth time. Bowdoin finished the season with a record of 19-1 as Pearson improved to 232-47 all-time at the helm of the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin's head coach for the last 16 seasons, Pearson's .831 winning percentage ranks fifth in Division III history. She has won a league-record eight NESCAC Coach of the Year awards and is one of just four coaches in Division III history to win three National Championships.

As the New England West Region Coach of the Year, Pearson is one of six finalists for the 2011 Dita / NFHCA Division III National Coach of the Year award. The recipient will be announced at the NFHCA Coaches Recognition Luncheon to be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
