About the Program
No field hockey team in the nation has been more successful over
the past four seasons than Bowdoin College. Solidifying themselves
as the nation's elite program, the Bowdoin College field hockey
team has won five NESCAC Championships, including four consecutive
titles from 2005-08, and has reached the Division III Final Four in
each of the past four years, becoming just the fourth program in
NCAA Division III history to win consecutive national titles in
2007 and 2008.
With an astounding record of 39-2 in the last two years, no
program in the country has a higher winning percentage (.951) than
the Polar Bears.
Bowdoin is consistently among the top teams in the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association rankings, and have seen individuals gain
numerous national awards. Over the past few seasons, Katherine
Bruce '98, Dana Krueger '99, Heather Hawes '00, Sarah Banister '02,
Gillian McDonald '04 and Marisa O'Neil '05, Taryn King '07, Kate
Leonard '07, Lindsay McNamara '09 and Julia King '09 have earned
First-team All American nods.
Head Coach Nicky Pearson has been named as the NESCAC Coach of the
Year on six occasions and Division III National Coach of the Year
in both 2007 and 2008. She encourages her student-athletes to
welcome the challenges of a top-notch education and a top-notch
field hockey program that Bowdoin offers. That effort is evidenced
in the fact that Bowdoin placed nine players on the NFHCA
All-Academic squad in 2008 and has also earned the NFHCA's Team
Academic Award on multiple occasions; recognizing collegiate squads
with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
