BRUNSWICK, Maine – First-year player Brandon Lopez (Amesbury, Mass.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Lopez tossed a complete game, seven-inning shutout against Middlebury on Saturday as the Polar Bears took a 6-0 win. He allowed four hits while striking out seven and walking just one batter. He also batted .308 in four games last week with two extra base hits and four runs scored.

Lopez enjoyed a stellar rookie season, appearing in 34 of Bowdoin's 36 games, including seven starts on the mound. He went 3-2 on the season with a save, tossing his first complete game of the year at Middlebury. Lopez averaged 5.82 strikeouts per game. At the plate, he was second only to Chad Martin in runs scored and led the team with eight doubles.

The Bowdoin baseball team ended the season with a shutout sweep at Middlebury and a 22-14 overall record.
