Van Zant Brothers Lead Bowdoin to Doubleheader Sweep of Husson

LAKELAND, Fla. - Behind stellar pitching efforts and lively bats, the Bowdoin baseball team cruised to a sweep of Husson in Florida on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears earned duplicate 7-0, 7-0 wins with brothers Oliver Van Zant and Henry Van Zant getting credit for the wins.

In the opener, the Bowdoin pitching staff permitted just three hits in the shutout win. Oliver Van Zant tossed five frames, striking out two and allowing two hits. Comeback performances by Mike Levine, who struck out two batters in the sixth, and David Zabinsky, who pitched a perfect seventh with two whiffs, sealed the win for Bowdoin.

John Lefeber had a run-scoring single in the first for Bowdoin while Cole DiRoberto swatted the first homer of the season in the fifth to spark a four-run frame. DiRoberto also walked three times on the afternoon while Aaron Rosen went 3-3 with three singles and a sac bunt.

Henry Van Zant picked up where the pitchers left off in game two by going six innings, striking out five while permitting just four hits and no walks. Kevin McDonough closed out the shutout with two strikeouts in the seventh. Dan Findley keyed a six-run sixth inning with a double. Duncan Taylor reached base three times and had two RBI's.

Bowdoin will return to action on Thursday with a regional game against Keene State.
