Bowdoin Baseball Opens Season With Sweep of Roger Williams

Christian Martin earned the win in game one for Bowdoin

LEESBURG, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team swept Roger Williams to open its 2013 campaign on Sunday in Florida.

The Polar Bears (2-0) took game one by a score of 4-2 and followed it up with a 7-3 win in the nightcap. Bowdoin will return to action on Tuesday with a pair of games against Daniel Webster.

Starting pitcher Christian Martin threw four strong innings of two-hit ball to get the win in game one and got excellent relief efforts from Dave Bernstein and John Lefeber to help close out the victory. Cole DiRoberto had a pair of hits for the Polar Bears while Aaron Rosen got Bowdoin going with a two-run single in the first to spark the offense.

Bowdoin first-year Harry Ridge tossed a complete game in game two, scattering three runs on ten hits for his first collegiate victory. Erik Jacobsen tripled in the third to put the Polar Bears on the scoreboard and later scored on a passed ball to give Bowdoin the lead they would never relinquish. The Polar Bears scored three runs in the seventh to put the contest out of reach thanks to aggressive baserunning. Peter Cimini ended the game with a nice diving catch in center field to cap the sweep.

Complete box scores will be posted on the Bowdoin website when available.
