First-Year Duo Lead Bowdoin Baseball Postseason Honors
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Four Bowdoin College baseball players have been named All-New England Small College Athletic Conference performers by the league office on Wednesday. First-years Christian Martin and John Lefeber led the way with First Team All-Conference honors while Martin was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Year. Brett Gorman and Jordan Edgett collected Second Team honors.

Rain Washes Out Final Day of NESCAC Baseball Championship
AMHERST, Mass. - After a three hour delay, torrential rain finally washed out the final day of the 2011 NESCAC Baseball Championship on Sunday, cutting short the conference final between Tufts and Bowdoin. The Jumbos, by virtue of their 2-0 mark heading into the final day, were awarded their second consecutive crown and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Polar Bears, who went 2-1 in tournament, sit at 24-14 overall on the year and will wait to hear about a possible at-large bid.

Polar Bears Stay Alive After Marathon Saturday at NESCAC's
AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College baseball team survived 22 innings of play and an elimination game to reach the final day of the 2011 NESCAC Championship, splitting a pair of games on Saturday to reach Sunday's final round. The Polar Bears dropped a 12-inning affair to Tufts in their opener before rallying late to stun Amherst in the 10-inning nightcap. Weather permitting, Bowdoin will have to beat Tufts twice on Sunday to capture its first conference title.

Bowdoin Beats Amherst in Opening Round NESCAC Slugfest
AMHERST, Mass. - John Lefeber broke a 7-7 tie with a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning and finished 4-for-6 with four RBIs to lead Bowdoin College to a 9-8 win over Amherst College in the opening round of the NESCAC Baseball Championship. The Polar Bears (23-13) advance to the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tourney and will take on Tufts Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Amherst.

Polar Bears Eye First Conference Championship This Weekend
AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College baseball team will look to win its first NESCAC title this weekend when they travel to Massachusetts to compete in the 2011 NESCAC Tournament. The three-day, double-elimination tournament features the top two teams from the East and West Divisions and runs from Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15 at Amherst College and American International College.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - St. Joseph's starter Chad Rafferty tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Monks baseball team to a 1-0 win at Bowdoin on Sunday afternoon at Pickard Field. The win gives St. Joseph's (30-11) thirty victories for the third consecutive season while the Polar Bears (22-13) lose despite a stellar effort from starter John Lefeber.

Polar Bears Return To Winning Ways in Sweep of Middlebury
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Middlebury on Saturday, 7-2 and 16-7. The Polar Bears (22-12) and Panthers (14-13) will both play in the NESCAC Tournament next weekend in Massachusetts. Christian Martin cruised to his sixth win of the season in the opener before the Bowdoin bats came alive in a game two victory.

WATERVILLE, Maine - Colby's Dom Morrill pitched seven strong innings as the Colby College baseball team ended its season with a 5-4 victory over playoff-bound Bowdoin College on Friday at Coombs Field. The Mules end the season at 14-20 overall and 1-11 in the NESCAC East, while Bowdoin falls to 20-12 overall and 8-4 in league play. The Polar Bears will host Middlebury on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Southern Maine Beats Bowdoin in Non-Conference Slugfest
GORHAM, Maine - The University of Southern Maine pounded out 20 hits and had a pair of huge innings en route to a 15-12 win over Bowdoin on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies improve to 19-15 this season while the Polar Bears drop to 20-11 overall. Kyle LeBlanc and John Lefeber had three hits apiece in the loss for Bowdoin.

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Tufts University baseball team earned its second straight #1 seed in the NESCAC East Division with a doubleheader sweep over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at Huskins Field. The 17th-ranked Jumbos took 7-5 and 5-0 victories to improve to 22-6-1 overall (11-1 NESCAC). Bowdoin, which has also qualified for the conference championship, dropped to 20-10 overall and 8-3 in the NESCAC East.

The Judges, who rallied from a four-run deficit and then squandered a three-run edge later in the game, improve to 23-13 this spring while Bowdoin falls to 19-8.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin sophomore Oliver Van Zant (Westport, Conn.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Van Zant dominated Colby on Saturday, tossing six innings of two-hit ball with 10 strikeouts as the Polar Bears took a pair of games from the Mules to clinch a NESCAC postseason berth.

WATERVILLE, Maine - Bowdoin College pitcher Oliver Van Zant spun a gem, tossing six shutout innings and striking out 10 in a 3-0 victory at Colby on Saturday. The Polar Bears, winners of 14 of their last 16 against their northern neighbors, improve to 19-7 (7-1 NESCAC) overall while Colby falls to 10-17 (0-8 NESCAC). Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to rain. No make-up has been announced.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior Brett Gorman tied a school record with three home runs as the Polar Bear baseball team slammed Colby 12-1 in the opener of a three-game NESCAC East Division series Friday at Pickard Field. The victory clinches a NESCAC postseason berth for Bowdoin (18-7, 6-1 NESCAC). Gorman also established a school record with 14 total bases in the win.

BANGOR, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team split a doubleheader with Husson University on Monday night, falling in game one 8-2 before rallying late in an 8-4 victory in game two. The Polar Bears, ranked seventh in the latest New England poll, stand at 17-7 overall this spring with the results. Evan Farley earned his second win of the season in game two for the Polar Bears.

The senior third-baseman and outfielder led a potent Polar Bear offense with a .526 batting average last week as Bowdoin earned four wins in five games to improve to 13-6 this spring.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team swept Thomas in a doubleheader, edging the Terriers 7-6 in the opener and cruising in game two, 12-0. The Polar Bears, who were playing their home opener, improve to 13-6 overall this season. Thomas drops to 7-14 this spring with the losses. Five Polar Bears had three or more hits in the doubleheader, led by four apiece from Matt Ruane and Joe Comizio.

LEWISTON, Maine - Bowdoin received a strong pitching performance from first-year Christian Martin and a pair of key two-out, two-RBI hits in defeating the Bates baseball team 8-3 on Friday at Leahey Field. Bates drops to 6-11 overall and 0-4 in the NESCAC East Division, while Bowdoin rises to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in division play. Brendan Garner led the Polar Bear attack with three hits and three runs in the win.

AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College baseball team was swept by Amherst in their northern debut on Sunday afternoon. The Jeffs used a late rally to down the Polar Bears 14-7 in game one before taking a convincing 8-1 win in game two. The Jeffs improve to 9-4 on the season while Bowdoin loses consecutive games for the first time this season and stands at 9-5.

Baseball Continues to Roll, Extends Win Streak to Six
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team returned to action Saturday and extended their winning streak to six with a pair of wins over Edgewood and Ramapo. The Polar Bears defeated Edgewood 6-2 and downed Ramapo 6-4 to improve to 6-1 overall this spring. Matt Ruane collected six hits in the two games to spark the Bowdoin offense.

Baseball Enjoys Hot Start to Spring Break Trip in Florida
AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team has won four of its first five games in its spring trip to Florida. The Polar Bears lost their season-opener to Roger Williams on Monday, but have won four straight heading into a pair of off-days on Thursday and Friday, including a sweep of Framingham State and a 9-4 victory against UMass-Boston.
