Marquit Hits For Cycle in Opener as Polar Bears Crush Curry

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team opened their 2010 campaign with an offensive onslaught in a sweep of Curry College on Sunday. The Polar Bears claimed game one 17-4 before taking a 6-2 win in game two.

Adam Marquit highlighted the game one victory, hitting for the cycle and connecting on his first career home run. Reid Auger, Brendan Garner, Dan Findley and Dan Hicks also went deep for Bowdoin in the victory. Rookie Dan Findley had a sensational debut, going 5-5 with 3 singles, a double and a home run. Tim Welch tossed a solid five innings with four strikeouts and only allowing 6 hits. Scott Ogden and Luke Potter appeared in relief to seal the win.

The Polar Bears completed the sweep in game two behind a stellar first collegiate game from pitcher Oliver Van Zant, who tossed 6.1 no-hit innings before Curry was able to break through. R.J. Shea tossed a scoreless seventh to close out the contest. Auger (3-4) and Marquit (2-3, triple) continued their hot play at the plate and each scored a pair of runs to pace the offense.
