Walt Shepard '10 Shoots for Olympic Biathlon
BRUNSWICK, Maine - With his sights set on the 2010 Winter Olympics Games in Vancouver, Walt Shepard has taken the year off to focus on qualifying for a spot on the U.S. Olympic biathlon team. Shepard, of Yarmouth, Maine, has been skiing since he was a toddler, and says it has been a dream of his to compete in the Olympics. The biathlon a combination of cross-country skiing and riflery is an event he's trained for since high school.

December 10, 2009George Mitchell '54 Awarded NCAA's Highest Honor
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Former U.S. Senator George Mitchell '54 has been named the 2010 Theodore Roosevelt Award recipient. The highest honor bestowed by the NCAA, the award is presented annually to a former student-athlete for whom competitive athletics in college and attention to physical well being after graduation have been important factors in a distinguished career of national significance and achievement.

NESCAC Names Fall All-Sportsmanship and All-Academic Teams
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The New England Small College Athletic Conference has announced its Fall 2009 All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship honorees. The Polar Bears were recognized with 52 All-Academic nods and eight All-Sportsmanship winners. Cross-Country runner Colman Hatton was one of just seven students in the league to earn All-Conference, All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship this fall.

Winter Sports Live Stats & Webcast Schedule Announced
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College has announced an extensive webcast and live statistics schedule for the winter sports season, encompassing more than 50 home events. Bowdoin will provide live statistics coverage of every single home hockey (men's and women's) and basketball (men's and women's) game in 2009-10 and will feature an ambitious slate of 38 video webcasts.

Bowdoin Hosts Over 100 in Fourth Annual Phil Soule 5K
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Over 102 participants raced in the fourth annual Phil Soule 5K "Phlail" on Sunday, October 18 at Whittier Field. Paul Johnson took first-place honors in a time of 17:28 while the top female finisher was Bowdoin student Anna Ackerman in a pace of 21:30. Click the link above for complete results.

Bowdoin Inducts Eighth Class into Athletic Hall of Honor
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College Athletic Hall of Honor welcomed its eighth group of inductees on Homecoming Saturday, October 17. The recipients span nearly five decades of excellence and encompass seven different Bowdoin athletic teams. This year's class includes Harold "Bud" White '39, Alex Schulten '66, Dick Donovan '73, Kirk Hutchinson '82 and Susan Leonard Toll '85.
