Matthew Somma is the manager of the Orthopedic Associates Brunswick Clinic and physical therapist at the OA clinic at Bowdoin College.
Somma received his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of New England in 2009. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, Matthew became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Matthew worked as a strength coach in the San Diego Padres organization in 2006. He was located at their spring training complex in Peoria, Arizona where he instructed players affiliated with their Rookie ball affiliate, the Peoria Padres. While with the Padres, he was involved in training a championship team in the Arizona League.
Upon receiving his physical therapy license in 2009, Matthew worked at a physical therapy clinic in Scarborough. His focus was on non-surgical management of patients with spinal dysfunction and athletes with low back pain.
Matthew joined Orthopedic Associates in January of 2010 as a staff clinician at the OA Performance Center in Saco. His clinical interests include biomechanical analysis of the overhead athlete, rehabilitation of the shoulder, and rehabilitation of low back dysfunction.
Physical therapy evaluations and treatments are provided to Bowdoin college students who have prescriptions from their health care providers. All sessions will be in the athletic training room located in the basement level of the Peter Buck Health and Fitness Center. Hours of operation are 8:30am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
