Jim Caton has been the Sports Information Director at Bowdoin College since 2001.

Caton handles all of the media and public relations requests for the Polar Bears’ 30 varsity athletic teams. Working out of the college’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs, the office maintains the Bowdoin Athletics website (http://www.goubears.com). The department produces gameday programs for home athletic events and writes pre- and post-game releases on each of Bowdoin’s athletic contests, which are distributed to regional and national media outlets. The office also supervises the collection of school records and compiles each of the teams’ statistical data in order to report to the NESCAC and NCAA.

Since becoming Sports Information Director, Caton has been able to garner attention for Bowdoin athletes in several national outlets, including Sports Illustrated, the New York Times, The Sporting News and ESPN the Magazine among others. He has also served as the primary contact for dozens of NESCAC and NCAA Tournaments.

A 2000 graduate of Ithaca College, Caton served one year as assistant director of Athletic Communications at Middlebury (Vt.) College. He currently resides in Topsham with his wife Jennifer and daughter Claire.
